Changing of the minds: Autodesk chairman Bartz likely to be next Yahoo! CEO

yahooCarol Bartz, Autodesk’s executive chairman is soon to be offered Yahoo’s vacant CEO position, and is by most accounts a strong, smart manager familiar with running a large company. But some doubt that she can handle the web-intensive demands of this sort of company. Yes, software and web based sales are very different animals.

The big question for the potential successor to outgoing Chief Executive Jerry Yang, though, is how well would her experience nurturing growth at a computer-aided design software company transfer to the job of turning around an embattled media company with shrinking revenue due to the economic downturn.

Analysts scrutinizing the situation, though, are more bullish on Bartz than worried about her media chops. They think what Yahoo! needs is someone with aggressive business sense, which I can’t argue with either.
